Suspension

This week's blog is actually a task that was set by wren's Sir, Draugluin. As the title states, it is about suspension. First, let's define suspension.

The act of suspension is hanging the human body from (or partially from) hooks pierced through the flesh in various places around the body. (Credited to BMEzine.com 2002).

There are several different reasons that one would choose to do suspension. For the endorphin rush, facing and overcoming one's fear, spirituality. Obviously, wren hasn't listened all the reasons, as she doesn't know them. As to the sorts of people who choose to try suspension? Young, old, vanilla, S/m couples, self-proclaimed 'freaks', businessfolk, everyone.

What does it feel like? Speaking from personal experience, having what amounts to really big fish hooks with the barbs ground off shoved through your back hurts. A lot. At least at first. It can be uncomfortable, and before you are hoisted up, there is a jumble of pain, burning, and a pulling sensation. Once you're up in the air though, the pain fades and it feels like you're floating. That is just wren's experience, and everyone will experience it differently. It all depends on the individual.

Types of Suspension

There are different types of suspension, and each position has a name.

Vertical Chest Suspension, occasionally known as O-kee-pa (though wren doesn't particularly like that name, as it trivializes a Native American ritual that has been around since before America was settled).

That is your basic chest suspension. It's considered to be one of the more painful and unsettling techniques, as you can actually see the skin stretching.

Vertical Back Suspension, commonly known as a 'suicide' suspension

This is the most common technique out there, (and is the one wren had done), and can use anywhere from two to four hooks.

There are many more positions out there, almost too many for wren to list. And to be honest, wren doesn't think that the people who read her blog really want to see others hung up on hooks in awkward positions. So, comments and questions are welcome as always.

  1. kitten can see you coming alive now wren.

Opening yourself and sharing who you are and what you are about is a great feeling of expression.

you will see, if you haven't realized it already, that you are among like-minded people that do not judge.

W/we are neither freaks nor outcasts, W/we are a family, the family W/we get to choose!

Little by little, littl wren, your wings ae starting to flap and soon, you will take off in flight, soaring towards new great heights and W/we will be here cheering you on!

    *cheers sistah*
